Signs Your System Needs Service

Water treatment equipment doesn’t last forever, and even quality systems need periodic maintenance. Here are the most common reasons homeowners call us for repair.

💧

Water Softener Not Softening

Hard water symptoms returning—scale buildup, soap not lathering, water spots on dishes. Could be a failed valve, depleted resin, salt bridge, or programming issue. We diagnose and fix the actual cause.

🚰

System Leaking

Water pooling around your softener, filter tank, or plumbing connections. Leaks can come from cracked tanks, failed O-rings, loose fittings, or drain line issues. Don’t wait—water damage adds up fast.

🟤

Staining Returned

Orange, black, or brown stains coming back after your iron or manganese filter was working fine. Common causes include exhausted media, channeling, failed backwash cycle, or changes in your water chemistry.

🥚

Smell Came Back

Sulfur or rotten egg odor returning after treatment was working. The media may be exhausted, the system may be undersized for your actual H₂S concentration, or your water chemistry may have changed seasonally.

🚿

Low Water Pressure

Pressure dropped after treatment was installed, or gradually decreased over time. Could be clogged sediment filters, fouled media, improperly sized equipment, or a failing pressure tank.

⚠️

Error Codes or Stuck Cycles

Control valve displaying error codes, system stuck in regeneration, or timer not advancing. Electronic and mechanical valve failures are common on older equipment. We work on all major valve brands.

We Repair All Types of Water Treatment Equipment

It doesn’t matter who installed it or how old it is. If it treats water, we can diagnose it and give you an honest assessment.

🔧 Softeners & Filters

  • Water softeners (all brands, all ages)
  • Iron and manganese filters
  • Sulfur and hydrogen sulfide systems
  • pH correction / acid neutralizers
  • Sediment and carbon filters
  • UV disinfection systems
  • Reverse osmosis units

⚙️ Components & Infrastructure

  • Control valves (Fleck, Clack, Autotrol, others)
  • Pressure tanks (bladder and diaphragm)
  • Well pumps (submersible and jet)
  • Booster pumps
  • Chemical feed pumps
  • Plumbing connections and bypass valves
  • Drain lines and backwash plumbing

Our Repair Philosophy

We’re not here to sell you a new system if your current one can be fixed. And we won’t waste your money repairing something that should be replaced.

1

Diagnose the Problem

We inspect the equipment, test your water, check the control valve programming, and identify exactly what’s failing. No guessing, no assumptions based on brand or age alone.

2

Honest Assessment

We tell you what’s wrong and give you straight options. If it’s a $50 part, we say so. If the system is undersized, outdated, or was wrong for your water to begin with, we tell you that too—with an explanation of why.

3

Repair or Replace Recommendation

If repair makes sense, we do it on the spot when possible. If replacement is the better path, we design a new system based on your actual water chemistry—not a one-size-fits-all swap. Either way, you understand the reasoning before any work starts.

4

Verify & Support

After repair or installation, we verify the system is working correctly. We document baseline conditions and stay available for follow-up. Based in Murrysville—not a national call center.

Top Repair Issues in Southwestern PA

After decades of servicing equipment throughout the region, certain problems come up repeatedly. Here’s what we fix most often.

Failed Control Valves

The control valve is the brain of your softener or filter. Piston seals wear, motors fail, and circuit boards die. We rebuild or replace valves on all major brands—Fleck, Clack, Autotrol, and others.

Exhausted Media

Filtration media doesn’t last forever. When Custom-Designed media is spent, your water quality degrades gradually. We test media condition, evaluate remaining capacity, and rbed when needed.

Pressure Tank Failure

Waterlogged pressure tanks cause short-cycling pumps, fluctuating pressure, and premature pump failure. We diagnose bladder integrity, check precharge pressure, and replace tanks that can’t hold air.

Undersized or Mismatched Systems

The most frustrating “repair” situation—a system that was never right for your water to begin with. Wrong media for your contaminants, undersized for your flow rate, or missing a treatment stage entirely. We identify these situations honestly.

When to Fix It and When to Start Fresh

🔧 Repair Usually Makes Sense When

  • The system was properly sized and designed for your water
  • A specific component has failed (valve, motor, seal, O-ring)
  • Media needs replacement but tanks and valves are sound
  • The system is under 10-15 years old and maintained
  • Your water chemistry hasn’t changed significantly

🔄 Replacement Usually Makes Sense When

  • The system was never right for your water chemistry
  • Multiple components are failing simultaneously
  • Repair cost approaches replacement cost
  • The system is severely undersized for your household
  • Your water conditions have changed and the system can’t adapt
  • Equipment is obsolete with no available parts

We always explain the reasoning behind our recommendation. You make the decision with complete information.

Water Treatment Repair FAQs

Do you service equipment you didn’t install?

Yes. We repair and service water treatment equipment regardless of who installed it. Softeners, filters, UV systems, RO units, pressure tanks, well pumps—it doesn’t matter who put it in. We diagnose the problem and give you honest options.

What brands do you work on?

All of them. We work on equipment with Fleck, Clack, Autotrol, and other control valves. We service systems from national brands, regional companies, and systems installed by previous homeowners or other contractors. If it treats water, we can evaluate it.

My water softener is using salt but the water is still hard. What’s wrong?

Several possibilities: the resin may be exhausted and unable to exchange ions, there could be a salt bridge in the brine tank (a hard crust preventing salt from dissolving), the control valve may not be regenerating properly, or the valve seals could be bypassing. We diagnose the specific cause on site.

How do I know if my system needs repair or replacement?

It depends on what’s failing and why. A single component failure on a properly designed system usually warrants repair. But if the system was never right for your water, multiple components are failing, or repair costs approach replacement value, starting fresh often makes more sense. We explain the reasoning so you can decide.

There’s water pooling around my treatment system. Is this an emergency?

Potentially. A slow drip from a fitting may be manageable short-term, but active leaking from a cracked tank or failed seal can cause significant water damage quickly. Shut off the bypass valve if you have one, and call us. We offer emergency service for active leak situations.

My well has no water. Can you help?

Yes. No-water situations can result from a failed well pump, failed pressure switch, tripped breaker, pressure tank failure, or actual well yield issues. We troubleshoot the system to identify the cause and get your water running again. We handle well pump and pressure tank replacement.

How long does a typical repair take?

Many repairs are completed in a single visit—valve rebuilds, media changes, component swaps, and pressure tank replacements are usually same-day. More involved situations like well pump replacement or complete system redesign may require scheduling. We give you a realistic timeframe upfront.

Can you just maintain my existing system?

Yes. Preventive maintenance extends equipment life and catches problems before they become emergencies. This includes media inspection, valve service, seal checks, water testing to verify performance, and salt/chemical replenishment for systems that need it. We can set up a maintenance schedule based on your equipment.

My previous company went out of business. Can you take over?

Absolutely. This is more common than you’d think. We evaluate the equipment, test your water, and determine what’s working, what needs attention, and whether the system is appropriate for your actual water conditions. We then provide ongoing service and support.
