1947: A New Borough
When Pleasant Hills broke away from Jefferson Township in December 1946, the steel industry was king. The 837 original homes housed workers from US Steel, J&L Steel, Bethlehem Steel, Gulf Oil, Koppers, General Motors, and Dravo.
Within 25 years, that number grew to 2,630 homes. Today, 3,500 households call Pleasant Hills home — many of them the children and grandchildren of those original steel families.
