Pittsburgh’s “Beautiful View” Since 1867

Bellevue Water Filtration

When J.J. East named this borough “Beautiful View,” he saw the Ohio River stretching toward the horizon. Today that same river provides your water — treated by West View Water Authority, then flowing through 130 years of Queen Anne and Craftsman plumbing.

We test what’s actually coming out of your tap. Then we build a system engineered for your home’s vintage character.

From Depreciation Lands to “Beautiful View”

This land was once reserved for Revolutionary War veterans returning home bankrupt and weary. In 1867, residents broke away from Ross Township after officials refused to improve the Venango Trail. They incorporated their own borough with exactly 300 residents — the minimum required — and named it for the stunning Ohio River vista.

Then the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago Railroad arrived. Suddenly businessmen could live in “healthfulness, accessibility, and beautiful natural scenery” while commuting to work in Pittsburgh. From 1892 to 1929, developers built hundreds of Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, and Craftsman homes. Those solid middle-class houses — “perfect examples of the Comfortable House” — still define Bellevue today.

The plumbing inside them? That’s where we come in.

What Bellevue Homeowners Deal With

West View Water Authority meets federal standards. These issues develop between their mains and your morning coffee.

🏛️

Victorian-Era Plumbing

Most homes built 1892-1929: lead service lines, lead solder, galvanized steel, and brass fixtures were standard. Water sits overnight in these pipes, absorbing whatever the metal releases.

🌊

Ohio River Source

Surface water picks up everything upstream. West View treats it well, but river source water has different characteristics than groundwater — including seasonal variations.

💧

Hard Water Scale

Dissolved minerals leave white deposits on faucets, showerheads, and inside water heaters. In 100+ year old pipes, scale compounds decades of existing buildup.

🚰

Chlorine Taste

West View’s chlorine disinfection keeps water safe through 32 municipalities. The chemical taste that reaches your tap is the treatment doing its job — you just don’t want to drink it.

⚠️

Lead Risk

Pre-1986 construction used lead solder and brass fixtures with lead content. Water arrives lead-free from West View but can absorb lead sitting in your vintage plumbing.

🔬

PFAS Concerns

PFAS “forever chemicals” are an emerging concern in surface water sources. Custom-Designed filtration provides additional protection beyond utility treatment.

Municipal Water Provider

West View Water Authority

West View Water Authority serves 32 municipalities and over 200,000 people across Allegheny, Beaver, and Butler counties. Their primary treatment plant sits on Neville Island, drawing water from the Ohio River and treating up to 40 million gallons per day.

The Authority owns 10 reservoirs with 39.8 million gallons of storage capacity. They use granular activated carbon in treatment and meet all federal standards.

But their responsibility ends at your property line. The service line from curb to house, and all plumbing inside your 1890s-era home, is your responsibility.

Bellevue Water Questions — Answered

Who provides water to Bellevue?

West View Water Authority provides municipal water service to Bellevue. They serve 32 municipalities and over 200,000 people, drawing water from the Ohio River and treating it at their Neville Island facility.

Why does my Bellevue water taste like chlorine?

West View Water Authority uses chlorine disinfection to ensure water safety through 32 municipalities. The taste is the treatment doing its job. Whole-house Custom-Designed filtration removes chlorine at every tap.

Is Bellevue water hard?

Ohio River source water often contains dissolved minerals that cause hardness. White scale on fixtures, spotty dishes, and dry skin are common signs. A custom-engineered water softener eliminates hardness throughout your home.

Should I worry about lead in my water?

Most Bellevue homes were built 1892-1929, well before the 1986 lead-free plumbing law. Lead solder, lead service lines, and brass fixtures were standard in Queen Anne and Craftsman construction. Water arrives lead-free but can absorb lead from your vintage plumbing. Testing confirms your risk.

What about PFAS in Bellevue water?

PFAS compounds are an emerging concern in surface water sources like the Ohio River. Custom-Designed filtration or RO provides additional protection beyond utility treatment.

How much does water filtration cost?

Costs depend on your water chemistry and your home’s vintage plumbing situation. We test first, then engineer a system for your actual conditions. Call 724-708-8816 for a consultation.

Do you offer reverse osmosis systems?

Yes. We install high-flow RO systems with optional UV disinfection that helps inactivate microorganisms. Finishing options include pH Boost or Mineral Add-Back. Customers say their water tastes better than bottled.

What school district is Bellevue in?

Northgate School District — serving Bellevue, Avalon, and portions of Ross Township.

What’s your treatment process?

Water chemistry analysis → Custom system design → Professional installation → Ongoing support with up to 10-year warranty (terms apply). We account for West View’s Ohio River treatment plus your Victorian-era plumbing.

Do you serve all of Bellevue?

Every block of all 1.1 square miles — Lincoln Avenue to the Ohio River, Avalon to Brighton Heights. Call 724-708-8816 to schedule.
