Before the Borough
The Delaware, Shawnee, and Mingo once called this land home. A 1774 log house — still standing — predates the nation itself. The 1797 Torrence House on Colson Drive has watched eight generations come and go.
And in the Robertson Arboretum, 16 acres of virgin woodland contain trees the Pennsylvania Historical Commission certified as over 200 years old during America’s bicentennial.
1947: A New Borough
When Pleasant Hills broke away from Jefferson Township in December 1946, the steel industry was king. The 837 original homes housed workers from US Steel, J&L Steel, Bethlehem Steel, Gulf Oil, Koppers, General Motors, and Dravo.
Within 25 years, that number grew to 2,630 homes. Today, 3,500 households call Pleasant Hills home — many of them the children and grandchildren of those original steel families.
What This Means for Your Pipes
Most Pleasant Hills homes were built between 1947 and 1975 — the peak of copper-with-lead-solder construction. Galvanized steel service lines, brass fixtures, and soldered joints were standard.
PA American Water delivers clean water to your property line. Everything from the curb to your faucet is yours — including 50-75 years of mineral buildup inside those mid-century pipes.
What Pleasant Hills Homeowners Deal With
PA American Water meets federal standards. These issues develop between their mains and your morning coffee.
Mid-Century Plumbing Era
Most homes built 1947-1975: copper with lead solder, galvanized steel, brass fixtures with lead content. Water sits overnight in these pipes, absorbing whatever the metal releases.
Hard Water Scale
Dissolved minerals leave white deposits on faucets, showerheads, and inside water heaters. In 50+ year old pipes, scale compounds decades of existing buildup.
Chlorine Taste
PA American’s chlorine disinfection keeps water safe in distribution. The chemical taste that reaches your tap is the treatment doing its job — you just don’t want to drink it.
Lead Risk
Pre-1986 construction used lead solder and brass fixtures with lead content. Water arrives lead-free from PA American but can absorb lead sitting in your plumbing.
PFAS Concerns
PFAS “forever chemicals” are an emerging concern statewide. PA American has conducted voluntary sampling. Custom-Designed filtration provides additional protection.
Dry Skin & Hair
Hard water and chlorine strip natural oils, leaving skin dry and hair dull. Soap doesn’t lather properly. Whole-house treatment solves this at every tap.
Pennsylvania American Water
Pennsylvania American Water (PAWC) — the largest investor-owned water utility in Pennsylvania — provides municipal service to Pleasant Hills Borough. They treat the water, maintain distribution mains, and ensure it meets federal standards when it leaves their system.
But PAWC’s responsibility ends at your property line. The service line from curb to house, and all plumbing inside your 1950s-era home, is your responsibility. That’s exactly where we come in.

Pleasant Hills Water Questions — Answered
Who provides water to Pleasant Hills?
Pennsylvania American Water (PAWC) provides municipal water service to Pleasant Hills Borough. They’re the largest investor-owned water utility in Pennsylvania.
Why does my Pleasant Hills water taste like chlorine?
PA American Water uses chlorine-based disinfection to meet federal standards. The chemical taste is the disinfectant working. Whole-house Custom-Designed filtration removes chlorine at every tap.
Is Pleasant Hills water hard?
Many homes experience moderate hard water. White scale on fixtures, spotty dishes, and dry skin are common signs. In 50+ year old pipes, scale compounds existing buildup. A custom softener solves this.
Should I worry about lead in my water?
Most Pleasant Hills homes were built 1947-1975, before the 1986 lead-free plumbing law. Lead solder, lead service lines, and brass fixtures were standard. Water arrives lead-free but can absorb lead from your plumbing. Testing confirms your risk.
What about PFAS in Pleasant Hills water?
PFAS compounds are an emerging statewide concern. PA American has conducted voluntary sampling and is returning settlement proceeds to customers. Custom-Designed filtration or RO provides additional protection.
How much does water filtration cost?
Costs depend on your water chemistry and home situation. We test first, then engineer a system for your actual conditions. Call 724-708-8816 for a consultation.
Do you offer reverse osmosis systems?
Yes. We install high-flow RO systems with optional UV disinfection that helps inactivate microorganisms. Finishing options include pH Boost or Mineral Add-Back. Customers say their water tastes better than bottled.
What school district is Pleasant Hills in?
West Jefferson Hills School District — Gill Hall Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, McClellan Elementary, Pleasant Hills Middle School, and Thomas Jefferson High School.
What’s your treatment process?
Water chemistry analysis → Custom system design → Professional installation → Ongoing support with up to 10-year warranty (terms apply). We account for PA American’s treatment plus your mid-century plumbing.
Do you serve all of Pleasant Hills?
Every block of all 2.78 square miles — Mowry Park to Baldwin, Robertson Arboretum to Jefferson Hills. Call 724-708-8816 to schedule.
